A.P.E. has had great success in the field of garbage separation at source. This success has led other organisations, both in Egypt and abroad, to use similar methods in their work. The following organisations have been inspired by the experiences in Moquattam:

  1. The ‘Zero Waste’ project in El Gouna, on the Red Sea coast
  2. The ‘Enhancement of Integrated Services and Waste Recycling Company’ in Haram City, 6th October City, Cairo
  3. Several small NGO’s and other organisations have received training by A.P.E. across a variety of areas including rag weaving.
In its more than 25 years working with the Zabbaleen community, A.P.E.’s work has been repeatedly recognized by the international community. Below are just a few examples.

Goldman Environmental Prize, 1994. Awarded by the Goldman Environmental Foundation.
Dubai International Award For Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment, 1998, Awarded by UN-Habitat and the Dubai Municipality.
Global 500 Youth Environment Award Roll of Honour, 1995. Awarded by the United Nations Environment Program.
